The History of Thomas House

The Artful Garden Gallery is located in the parlour of Thomas House. In a former lifetime, the Thomas property was a flourishing four hundred acre farm located just outside of the Village of Colborne. It consisted of 300 acres south of Highway # 2 and 100 acres north of Highway # 2. It was famous for its breeding of fine horses.

The 1972 Northumberland Historical Atlas lists this property on page 57 and the home is believed to have existed as a farm since 1832.

The Artful Garden Gallery  and  Thomas House Collectables

We have lost the horses and cows and gained a small gallery of contemporary art. The focus on the walls of the gallery is the work of watercolour artist Sharon Ramsay Curtis. The Gallery space also functions as a studio for Sharon's varied art projects. There is always a work in progress!

Meet Sharon & Bruce

After many years of being kept busy in the work-a-day world, the time came for us to retire from teaching and pursue some of our lifelong personal interests.  Sharon was delighted to be able to spend more time drawing and painting. Bruce enjoyed heading out to auctions and searching for interesting things. Many lovely pieces of glass have made their way into our shop from these expeditions.

At the same time we have been busy creating a lovely cottage garden on our two and one half acres between Colborne and Grafton. Our gardening style is eclectic and in places weeds flourish alongside of cherished perennials but the results, our visitors tell us, are both whimsical and beautiful.

These interests have led to the creation of the Artful Garden Gallery and Thomas House Collectibles. We welcome you to our regency cottage home where we have created a gallery in the former parlour. Come and walk our garden paths and view our work-in-progress garden. Browse through our gallery/gift shop where we feature Sharon’s watercolours of florals and local landscapes.  Her porcelain pottery is showcased in the Gazebo Gallery.

Recently, we have been welcoming small groups of children, with their parents, for Story Time and an Adventure Walk! Ask us more about these fun events.

A selection from Bruce’s glassware and small collectables may provide the perfect gift for someone special to you.

All of your purchases will be wrapped and be-ribboned, ready for giving.  As well, when you make any purchase you may choose a photo card from our vast selection as our gift to you.  So come and join us for an afternoon’s shopping or just to share the garden, have a chat and enjoy the birds. We would love to meet you!

Remember, there are no strangers, just friends you have not yet met.
